How do I post on INSTAGRAM from my COMPUTER?

We all know that Instagram is a mobile-only application. You know it, I know it, there's literally no doubt about it. And even though Instagram's platform has steadily improved its experience with computer workstations over the past few years, it remains an exclusively mobile platform.

This is intentional since Instagram wants to encourage the use of the application on mobile and engagement with other users.

At present, there are two ways around this problem: either by using third party Instagram planning tools or by using clever computer tools. In this how-to guide, you'll learn how to do both so you can finally start posting on Instagram.

          Instagram from the computer

Publishing from a PC browser

This method may seem a little complicated at first, but it really isn't. It does not require any third-party site and is therefore totally free. It allows you to instantly upload images from your desktop to your Instagram, keeping in mind that this does not work with videos and carousels.

And of course, you can't plan anything in advance, as it is essentially the same process as publishing content directly from the Instagram application.

To publish to Instagram from a PC, you need to use modern web browsers with special built-in functionality that allows you to access Instagram's mobile view on the desktop.

Simply put, when using the desktop version of Instagram, you can enable this special feature and tell your browser that you are viewing the site from a mobile device, not a desktop computer. Once you're done, the Download button, which is usually not available on your computer, will appear and you can go to publish your Instagram message, as you can from your mobile device.

Chrome

Go to your browser's Instagram site and log in to your own account. Make sure you are on your own profile page before you start.

Then, in the top navigation bar of your browser, click on View →.

Developer → Development tools :

Immediately, a developer console opens on the right side. By default, a desktop view is enabled. What you want is to see it as if it were a mobile device. To do this, click on the small 'devices' icon to change the device view:

Notice how the view has changed from desktop to mobile :

The next step is to modify the responsive view to view for a specific mobile model. Click Responsive, and then choose an appropriate device from the drop-down list. I have an iPhone 7, so I chose the iPhone 6/7/8 option:

This will change the view of the browser on a mobile screen, causing the Download button to appear. If it does not appear, simply refresh the page.

The download button will appear immediately:

Clicking the Download button will automatically open the files on your computer. Note that you can only download JPG or JPEG files. So make sure that your image is not a PNG file (otherwise you will not be able to select it) :

Now, you are about to publish a new photo post:

From there on, the process is exactly the same as on mobile. You can write your caption, tag other users, geolocate your message and write hashtags - in other words, the usual checklist you would complete when posting an Instagram message, except that you will do it from your PC!

Once your message is ready, click Share and wait for the magic to happen:

Your photo will be instantly displayed on your profile!
